BBBEE SCORECARD

Employee training is a priority element in terms of BBBEE scores. A company can claim for training costs for people who are not employed by the company.

The salaries of the learners who are part of a Learnership programme can be claimed as part of the training costs, and the cost of a SDF can be claimed as a training expense. Skills development spend can count towards two elements of the score card under supplier and enterprise development. There is a 6% compliance target for Skills Development. This includes external training for unemployed black people.

Category F and G training are both recognizable but capped at 15% of the total value of skills expenditure. A 15% cap on non-core training expenses has been introduced. This will be applied to expenditure such as accommodation and travel. Mandatory Sectorial training doesn’t qualify as skills development - e.g. health and safety in the construction sector. Internal training can be recognized provided it meets SAQA standards.
